Los bosques tropicales juegan un papel importante en el mantenimiento de la calidad del agua al filtrarla y regular su flujo en la cuenca por medio del efecto esponja. Los experimentos a largo plazo y datos s\u00f3lidos de Agua Salud proporcionan informaci\u00f3n y conocimientos invaluables necesarios para comprender y mantener los servicios ecosist\u00e9micos, mejorar el uso de la tierra y los esfuerzos de reforestaci\u00f3n, y construir modelos predictivos necesarios para la ciencia y la planificaci\u00f3n, para garantizar la sostenibilidad frente al cambio ambiental.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-x-small-font-size\">El muestreo a escala de paisajes y las mediciones de alta frecuencia de la red de Din\u00e1mica de Bosques Secundarios (SFD) cuenta con alrededor de 1.5 millones de mediciones individuales. Las mediciones precisas cada 5 minutos a trav\u00e9s de arroyos en ocho usos diferentes de la tierra en la red hidrol\u00f3gica incluyen 10 millones de puntos de datos. Nuestro experimento central de plantaci\u00f3n incluye 25,000 \u00e1rboles medidos anualmente. Estamos aprovechando este conocimiento como parte de una iniciativa transdisciplinaria en la comarca Ng\u00e4be-Bugl\u00e9, en el oeste de Panam\u00e1, para buscar soluciones escalables que beneficien a las personas de sus comunidades. Colaboramos con los l\u00edderes tradicionales de la comarca para establecer parcelas de restauraci\u00f3n, para ayudar a probar especies de \u00e1rboles, avanzar en la investigaci\u00f3n ecol\u00f3gica e hidrol\u00f3gica, y ayudarnos a comprender mejor los sistemas socio-ecol\u00f3gicos dentro de los cuales se lleva a cabo la reforestaci\u00f3n. El equipo de Agua Salud se asoci\u00f3 recientemente con el Biocultural Learning Center para establecer un programa de ciencia ciudadana y educaci\u00f3n con la escuela en la comunidad vecina de El Jiral.
