What is a Shark?<\/h2>\n

Sharks are a type of fish, but they are different from other fishes in several ways:<\/p>\n

Sharks share most of their characteristics with other fishes. However, they differentiate by having a\u00a0cartilage<\/a>\u00a0skeleton instead of\u00a0bone<\/a><\/u>; by having visible\u00a0gill<\/a>\u00a0slits and not an\u00a0operculum<\/a>; by having\u00a0dermal denticles<\/a>\u00a0in their skin and not\u00a0scales<\/a>; by having thick and rigid fins; and by not having osseous spines.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
