I am a community ecologist working on plant-insect interactions (both sides). My research focuses on tropical forest community ecology and conservation in sites across the Amazon, Guiana Shield, Panama and the Congo Basin. My research interests include different aspects of arthropod ecology such as taxonomic and functional community composition, phenology, methodology, phylogenetic and conservation biology.

In the last years, I have studied insect-plant interactions and herbivore in the tropics; biodiversity and host-specificity of insect herbivores; insect spatial and temporal distribution; community structure and taxonomy of arboreal arthropods; tropical forest canopies and community ecology.

My main research interest is plant population and community ecology in grassland ecosystems of central Europe. In addition, I analyze data from various projects across plant and animal ecology. In this lab, I analyze long term monitoring data of tropical insects to identify temporal trends in population dynamics and their relationships to climate, and functional traits to establish functional classification of studied taxa.

I am very interested in the ecology and evolution of plant-pollinator interactions. Particularly, I am interested how seemingly small adaptations in either plants, or their corresponding pollinating insects can start, maintain or disrupt the process of speciation. In my research I rely mostly on population- and phylo- genetic/genomic methods to answer these types of questions but also implement field experiments to understand the evolutionary effect pollination interactions have on both participants.

I am interested in determining how tropical insect species, specifically Lepidoptera, respond to changes in climate. My research focuses on the thermal and desiccation tolerance of moths and butterflies in Panama. Through undertaking physiology experiments and modelling I aim to predict future changes in the Lepidoptera community composition of Barro Colorado Island. I am also interested in developing metabarcoding as a tool for arthropod monitoring.

I am currently in the first year of my PhD. During my doctoral studies I will be conducting field and laboratory experiments to understand how tropical populations of insect pollinators respond to climate change.
