Megalodon in Panama

Megalodon teeth have been found all over the world. This suggests that it was a cosmopolitan species, meaning that it lived in all of the ancient oceans of the planet. In Panama, it has been mainly found in the Gatun Formation, in areas between Panama and Colon. Surprisingly, Gatun teeth are very small! It has been suggested that these teeth were from Magalodon babies and that their moms left them in the shallow waters that covered Panama before the formation of the isthmus to protect them from other predators. The babies spent in their first years of life this nursery area.
